The
Great Neck Estates Police Department was organized on January 10,
1927, with the appointment of foot patrolman John Dennelly who retired
in 1951. Since that time, every aspect of police work has changed
considerably. However, the basic tenets upon which the department
was found have withstood the test of time. The Great Neck Estates
Police Department then and now is dedicated to the preservation
of the peace, protection of life and property, prevention and detection
of crime, and to the vigorous enforcement of all laws. For specific
Village laws refer to the Village code.
The department
consists of thirteen highly trained and professional members. The
current organizational structure is as follows: Chief of Police,
three Sergeants and nine Police Officers. Additionally the Village
employs two Police Communication Operators, a Safety Inspector and
two Parking Meter Attendants.
The Police
headquarters is located on Cedar Drive at Gateway Drive. In addition
to local, state and nationwide police computers, the department
also maintains and monitors a radio/digital alarm computer. The
Chief of Police should be contacted with regard to any information
on alarm systems. The department also maintains an emergency 911
system.
Residents
can add greatly to the security of the community by notifying the
police promptly of any suspicious persons or activities observed
in the Village. Before leaving home for a weekend or an extended
period of time, please notify the police and be prepared to provide
them with an emergency number and names of persons permitted to
enter the premises while you are away. Keys may be left at Police
Headquarters. Do not forget to stop all deliveries and to set your
alarms.
The
Great Neck Estates Police Department is here to serve you.
